Paul R. Epstein, M.D., M.P.H . 1944 - 2011
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Dr. Paul Epstein, associate director at the Centre for Health and the Global Environment at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Epstein passed away at his home in Boston, Massachusetts on 13th November at the age of 67, from lymphoma.
Along with his long time friend, colleague and co-founder of the Centre, Dr. Eric Chivian, Paul was a leading inspiration behind the foundation of the COHAB Initiative, someone whose advice and gentle guidance has been greatly treasured. In addition, his expertise and detailed work on the issue of climate change and its impact on infectious disease, and the links between energy choices and human health, has paved the way for much of what we do.
The Secretariat of the COHAB Initiative wishes to extend its deepest sympathies to his family and friends, and to his colleagues at the Centre. We will in some way remember Paul Epstein every day in our work, because much of it is simply following the direction Paul's work has set out for us.
